As a therapist living with chronic illness herself, I see you and believe you. I attempt to provide affirming care and a culturally responsive environment. Whatever you are going through, you don’t have to do it alone.
I am only providing therapy to adults over the age of 18+ at this time.
I am committed to affirming experiences for LGBTQ+ and BIPOC persons. Frequently Used Therapy Modalities
IFS
-
Based on Richard Schwartz model, Internal Family Systems (IFS), we are all born with different parts that have natural talents and provide value to our life. When we experience traumatic events these parts take on extreme protective roles. Essentially they go into survival mode - Fight, Flight, Freeze, Fawn, Attach - and do whatever they can to keep us safe. These extreme roles were effective in the midst of experiencing the trauma, but the traumatic event leaves the part frozen in that timeframe unaware that the trauma experience has ended and that we have aged. Our parts often believe we are still as old as we were when the trauma occurred, and therefore they must continue to protect us in the same ways they did before. There is no such thing as a bad part of you.
EMDR
-
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based modality that memory-activation and reprocessing treatment for trauma, complex trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, OCD, and more. We may consider this struggle with present-day triggers that are linked to past events, have experienced acute or complex trauma, or if you are further along in your therapy or feel like you’ve hit a plateau with just talk therapy.
-
Unprocessed memories and traumas are stored in our memory network/nervous system. These memories can be reactive when you’re in a situation that reminds your brain of the difficult experiences you’ve had, causing negative reactions to benign events. This is often what happens when we get “triggered.” The goal is to transform the meaning of painful events on an emotional level so that you can feel empowered by the experience. We help get the “yuck” unstuck in both the mind and nervous system.
In EMDR we activate the memory network associated with a specific present-day trigger you’d like to work through. We then guide you through sets of eye movements (or other forms of bilateral stimulation like sound/tapping) until the painful memories have been reprocessed. Bilateral stimulation helps our body and mind remember we are in the present while processing the past/future. It is actually something out body naturally does, but we just bring it into session on purpose. You are fully present and fully in control.
EMDR can be used for various needs (e.g. PTSD, anxiety, depression, OCD, complex trauma, grief, and phobias). However, it is not appropriate for everyone. If you are interested in EMDR, schedule a consultation, and we’ll discuss the eligibility criteria. Relationship building with your therapist is a key part and can’t be skipped. It takes time but can be helpful for my intellectualizers out there who have a difficult time connecting or feeling their way through their emotions.
Somatic Thearpy
-
Somatic therapy explains how the body expresses deeply painful or difficult experiences, applying mind-body healing to aid with trauma recovery, anxiety, and much more. Since disturbing feelings often show up in the body in debilitating ways, somatic therapy aims to drain those feelings of their power, relieving pain and other manifestations of stress such as disrupted sleep or an inability to concentrate. Unlike traditional talk therapy, somatic therapy starts with the body to relieve distress. This can include practices like grounding exercises, felt sense activities to feel and locate emotions in your body, acupressure, and breath work. I value a Polyvagal Theory framework to understand how our distress can move us into stress responses such as fight, flight, freeze, and fawn.
I provide an integrative approach interweaving evidence-based modalities when appropriate and creating a unique therapeutic environment. I believe in being mindful of your specific needs/strengths and where you are in your therapeutic/healing journey.
This can mean a blend of talk therapy, building our therapeutic rapport/relationship, various therapy modalities, somatic therapy techniques, and practical psychoeducation/tools.

FAQ’s
-
I am only accepting telehealth clients based in Texas at this time.
-
We will be accepting insurance shortly. Check in soon!
I am providing out-of-network billing options. Some insurances provide reimbursements for individual therapy session fees. This completely depends on your insurance and a specific plan. Call your insurance to see if this option may work for you. While we wait, feel free to reach out and I’d love to share some other payment options.
-
I accept HSA/FAS as payment. If you have health insurance, I would recommend contacting your insurance and you can ask if they accept out-of-network providers for individual therapy. You will pay the full amount at the start of the session. I will create a superbill which you can then submit to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement for all, or a portion, of what you pay out of pocket will in therapy. This can be a great option for many clients.
-
Do I have out of network health benefits? If so, is Telehealth covered?
If yes, what percentage of the cost do you reimburse?
Do I have a deductible I need to pay before I get reimbursed? If yes, what is the deductible amount? Has my deductible been met?
How many sessions per year are covered?
Is prior authorization from my Primary Physician Required?
How/where can I submit my suberbill?
-
In the first session, we get to know each other. I’ll share a little bit about myself, what to expect, my specialties, and answer any questions you may have. Then we will walk through a little bit about your history, symptoms, and goals. We will create a tailored plan for your specific therapy journey together to ensure this therapeutic experience fits your strengths and needs.
A big part of this session is getting a feel if I may be a good fit for you. Finding a good fit for a therapist is so important! The therapeutic relationship between a client and therapist is a key part of the therapeutic process.
-
I think when we start asking that question, we may be ready for the next step. The hardest step really is the first step. There is such bravery in vulnerability and choosing to show up even when it’s uncomfortable or new. I’m proud of you for even asking if you may be ready for therapy. I hope to hear from you soon.
